What is a Fakemon?

What's a fakemon? Well, this a fakemon is a fake monster; thus the "fake" and the "mon" part. But in depth, what is really considered a real fakemon? This is where this tutorial comes in. It's here to help you make a real fakemon. Sure you can draw a monster, give it a name and say, "Tada! A fakemon!" but that is only the beginning.

How to Make a Fake

1) First, you need an idea. It's kind of hard to make something without an idea. So try to thinking about what it is going to be in the end: a legendary? an extremely common Pokemon? what about a starter Pokemon? All these and many other ideas are just something to ponder as we go through this. 2) Next, a good place to really begin is to create an image. It doesn't matter if you create a sprite or a full out masterpiece, you can even doodle it on the back of your math homework. But whatever the case, it is always good to have a visual reference. Lets start by making something like a mouse/unicorn.
Here's a really bad image of what we're going to try to make a fake of. You can see that it has unicorn features (one horn, horse body, horse hair at the end of the tail,) and you can see it has mouse features (mouse eays, beady eyes, whiskers, long tail.)
3) Then, choose a type, evolution, name, and finish your picture. Since mice don't look like they have much of a super power, lets leave his type Normal. When I think of unicorns, I think or supernatural beings, so we will make his type Psychic. Now our mousy-unicorn is Psychic/Normal Type. When choosing an evolution, decide if your fakemon looks like it would evolve or something would evolve into it. If your fakemon is small, maybe it is a baby form of another fakemon you can make in the future. But in our case, I say we leave our fake as it is; nothing evolves into it, and it doesn't evolve into anything. As for the name, you can either combine words of what your fakemon is about, flip your planned fakemon name backwards, (snake = Ekans, kobra = Arbok,) or you can even get your fakemon's original name translated into another language, like Spanish or Italian. I say we name our creation Onucaton. Unicorn means one horn, and one in Spanish is uno. Uno backwards is onu:the first part of our fake's name. Mouse in Spanish is raton, and if you add uno spelled backwards onto raton, you get onuraton. Yet unicorn has a c instead of an h, so we're going to switch out the r for a c, as well. This leaves us with Onucaton. And last but not least, time to finish the picture. You can color it, add more details, or fix it up so the lines are more neat; we are going to do all three. And remember, try to keep your fakemon's colors organized with what type it is or what moves it plans to have. Don't make a Dark Type fakemon hot pink, unless you plan to have that be its defense, then by all means, make a hot pink Dark fakemon.
4) Now comes the interesting part; the attacks. All Pokemon have attacks they are able to learn, and levels they learn them at. When you do this, try to remember some Pokemon that have the same type and/or appearance. If you have a Ghost type Pokemon, think of a Haunter and what attacks it has. Then you could use those attacks and maybe some others that you think would be fitting for your fake. Then think of how the regular Pokemon's attacks are received level wise. Young Pokemon usually earn their first attacks at around level 7; part legendaries (Tyranitar, etc.) sometimes learn extremely strong attacks at around level 98 like Hyper Beam. But be careful when choosing the levels attacks are learned, not all Pokemon are like part legendaries and learn attacks every 10 levels after level 50. Once you have the levels set, make sure you don't do all status attacks or physical attacks; do both and vary about every other attacked learn (do something like Sleep Powder, Tackle, Headbutt, Stringshot.)
5) This step is quite like the last one. In this step, you will choose the TM's and HM's your fakemon is able to learn. A list of TM's and HM's can be found on >>> PE2K.com <<< I usually go down the list and write down what TM's and HM's I believe my fake can learn.
6) This is the "tying up the loose ends" step. Now you can organize all your information and get rid of some of the stuff you don't need. You can even add in some extra things like the male to female ratio, egg hatching steps, and some base stats (level 5 stats). After this step, you should have a fully formed fakemon!
