What are Sprites?
Sprite: A small graphic that can be moved independently around the screen, producing animated effects.
(
Original Source)
Sprite: Animated images that form objects or characters in 2D games.

Sprite: Small pictures that people use for video games, like the pictures of Pokemon that come on the Gameboy screen when you battle.
(Dodrio Girl's definition.)
So now that you know what a sprite is, how about a step-by-step tutorial on how to make them?
Splice Tutorial
First off, chose the sprites that you want to splice (a term used for mixing sprites to make a new one.) I would suggest using them off of
PE2K.com Start by
right clicking on a Torchic and clicking copy. Paste(ctrl+V) it in Paint after you've done that. If you have done it correctly, there should be a black square around the Torchic. If you have click elsewhere on the screen and the dotted-lined box has
disappeared, take the paint bucket tool and fill in the black with white. The border should remain the same when the black went away. This only works on some sprites, I will go more into detail on that later. Then do the same process for a Mudkip.

Next, click on the
magnifying glass and then choose 8x. Take the eyedropper tool and right click the lightest color on Torchic's head (should be orange/yellow.)
Then select the eraser tool and instead of being white, it will be the color you
right clicked on. Put that color near the sprite but not on it. Then go back and do the same process for other colors on Torchic, going from lightest shade to darkest. Remember to do this for it's head feathers and beak too. Then do the same for the Mudkip. Make sure that when you put the colors somewhere other than the sprite, that they are in order from darkest to lightest or lightest to darkest, depending on the sprite.

Third, keep the view in 8x zoom and select the free-form select (the dotted picture of a
star.) Carefully cut out the feather on top of Torchic's head, and place it somewhere else on the screen;
make sure it's not overlapping anything. Then on your color palette, right click the white color, and then select the eraser tool. With it, cautiously erase all of the Mudkip except for its head fin, its cheek fins, and its tail.
Make sure that you don't accidentally erase the outline of these parts. You don't have to erase all the parts you don't use, but for a less cluttered picture, you can if you want.

Fourth, select one part of Mudkip at a time and place them onto the Torchic approximately where they were located on the Mudkip (EX: don't put the tail on the head, that would look anatamonically [is that even a word?o_O] incorrect.) Once you have the cheek and head fins on the Torchic, you will see that the tail doesn't quite fit on properly. So instead of putting the tail on the body, we will put the body on the tail! Select the body and place it over the tail. Once it is the correct position, click away so it will stick
permanently (and don't worry if you mess up, just press ctrlZ(undo.)

And finally, we shall use the colors that we cataloged in the beginning. In this step, we will turn the Mudkip-Torchic Mudkip colors. For this, select the eyedropper tool and click on the lightest feather color of Torchic that should be in the array of colors at the top. Then, select the eyedropper tool again and right click the color you wish to replace the Torchic color with; in this case it will be the lightest color of Mudkip's fur. Once you have the Mudkip fur color right clicked and the Torchic fur color left clicked, select the eraser tool. Then, hold control (ctrl) and right click over the Mudkip-Torchic. If done right, the lightest color of fur on the Torchic should have turned a light blue color, the color of Mudkip's lightest fur color.

And tada! It's a Torkip! Or a Mudchic! or whatever you wanna call it! But congrats! You've succesfully completed the tutorial! ^_^
