Glitches/Cheats

Disclaimer: I have personally tried all of these cheats/glitches. They work successfully but may damage your game or delete your saved data. Dodrio's Nest is not responsible for any inconvenience that may happen.

Game: Red/Blue (possibly Green)
Glitch: MissingNo.
To start this glitch, talk to the man in Viridian City who asks if you're in a hurry. Say no and he will show you how to catch Pokemon. After he's done, fly down to Cinnabar Island and Surf along the east cost. Surf back and forth there until you come into battle with something. If it's MissingNo., the black pause right before a battle will be about 4 to 5 seconds long, that's a good 2 to 3 seconds over the normal time it takes. The Pokemon you come in battle with, though, may not be MissingNo. You may have come across 'M, MissingNo.'s 'cousin', if you will. MissingNo. and 'M are basically the same though. Each are Bird Type and Water Type. This is one of the glitches. Bird Type is not a type, Flying Type is, but not Bird. And Bird Type is listed as Type number one. No Pokemon before the Diamond/Pearl generation has Flying Type (the equivalent of Bird Type) listed first. MissingNo. and 'M also have the same attack set: Water Gun (25pp), Water Gun (25pp), and Sky Attack (5pp). You can find this out if you have a Ditto and use Transform when you come into battle with them. MissingNo. does nothing to your game's memory, but 'M ruins your Hall of Fame. You can discover this if you just find the two, then run away, but DO NOT CATCH EITHER MISSINGNO. OR 'M! This glitches your game and causes a number of things to happen, (I haven't actually tried catching either of them because I didn't want to ruin my game, but I have seen games in which people have captured MissingNo. or 'M.) There are a number of possibilities which could happen if you capture them, and I don't even know all of them, so I'm not going to even bother listing the ones I know. MissingNo. and 'M will also take the cry of another Pokemon, as they come into battle. For me, 'M had the cry of Zapdos, and MissingNo. had the cry of a Nidoran Male. This most likely varies from game to game, but I'm not 100% sure. Another strange thing that appears with this glitch is that when Surfing, you may even run into a Pokemon over level 100. The Pokemon and level may have to deal with your character's name. My Red Version game's player's name is NATE, and I found a level 128 Haunter. But officially, we don't know the cause of this Pokemon.

Glitch: Item Duplicating
This glitch falls under the MissingNo. glitch, but seeing as it can be altered, I believe it should have it's own category. To activate this glitch, talk to the man in Viridian City who teaches you how to catch Pokemon. Once he's done, fly down to Cinnabar Island and Surf along the east coast until you find MissingNo. or 'M. Run from either one of them and then check your inventory. The item in the 6th slot should have an odd sign next to it. It may be a flower, or a pixely triangle. This means that the item has probably about 100 to 500 copies. Repeat this with different items in the 6th slot to get different items multiplied.

Glitch: Rare Pokemon
Like the last glitch, this could fall under the MissingNo. glitch, but this time, you don't actually come in contact with MissingNo. or 'M. To begin, think of a Pokemon you want to have. Does that Pokemon live wild in the grass? Or is it a Safari Zone Pokemon? Or maybe even a special event Pokemon? If it is a special event Pokemon, you need to battle it right before you do this, (catch it, run from it, or kill it, it shouldn't matter, and if it does, please tell me so I can change this.) If it's a Safari Zone Pokemon, enter the Safari Zone and find the grass area that it lives in. If it's a wild Pokemon, you shouldn't need this glitch, but you're reading this anyways, so find the area the wild Pokemon lives in. After you've walked around in the area for a bit, Fly down to Cinnabar Island and Surf on the east coast. If you're in the Safari Zone, finish your time there, then Fly here; if your battling a special event Pokemon, finish that and then Fly here. Surf back and forth on the coast, and Pokemon from the area you were last in should appear. This glitch is best for hard to catch Pokemon, like Safari Zone's Chansey... I've used it to catch some rare Safari Zone Pokemon lol. (Whee, I cheated.)

Glitch: Mew
The Mew glitch is an odd glitch, and you have to get it right the first time, or it doesn't work. And if it does work, you can't do it again. First off, take the underground tunnel from Celedon City to the spot west of Lavender Town and east of Saffron City. Come out of the building and don't move. If you do, you may ruin the glitch. Save here, so if you mess up you can redo it. Once you have saved, walk down one space and press start instantly. If you've done this right, you should not have to fight the man that should have seen you if you didn't press start. From the start menu, enter your Pokemon party and make one of your Pokemon use Fly. Fly to Cerulean City and go up Nugget Bridge to Route 25 and walk in front of the first "kid". Make sure he spots you and has to walk down one spot to battle you. Beat him and then Fly to Lavender Town. Beating the kid shouldn't be too hard because he only has a Slowpoke, which is.... level 7 or 17. Somewhere between there. I can't remember, sorry! Once you're in Lavender Town, walk west out onto the path. As you get there, your menu should pop-up. Close it and you will be attacked by some level 7 Pokemon. Mew isn't the guaranteed Pokemon, yet is most likely what you'll get. I used to think you could only get Mew from this, but once I got my level 7 Nidoqueen, I was proved wrong. If you do catch the Mew, it will have only one attack; Pound. So have fun with your new Pokemon!

Glitch: Glitch City
Glitch City scared me to death when I first tried it, but it is a fun place to go every now and then. To start, enter the Safari Zone hunt for 500¥. Right after you enter, leave, and when they ask you if you're done, say No so you can enter again. Once more, go out, say No, and come back in. After this, save and turn off your game. Turn it back on and then exit the Safari Zone. This time, when you reach the man, he'll ask if you want to enter the Safari Zone for 500¥ instead of asking if you're done yet. Say no and then exit the building. Once you're out, walk around for 500 steps, (in other words, just walk around for a long time.) After 500 steps, no matter where you are, the PA will ding and they will say that your time in the Safari Zone is up. It will then make you "exit". After the man asks you if you got a good haul and tells you to come again, exit the building. Tada! Glitch City! The city's appearance depends on where you were when the time ran out. It's very easy to get stuck in it though. If you're unable to move, try using Surf, or Cut. If this doesn't work, then just Fly away or turn off your game and turn it back on. Flying from Glitch City and then saving shouldn't ruin your game. It didn't ruin mine but it is probably possible it may do something to alter your game. I haven't saved in Glitch City, so I don't know what happens. But I wouldn't recommend it, it will probably make your entire game into a Glitch Region. (This is a theory, I don't actually know.) Use this glitch at your own risk, there's a risk of it deleting your game!

Glitch: Type CoolTrainer♀
This is one of the weirdest glitches I've seen. I found out about it from Mew's Hangout; so if you find this glitch there, that's why. To do this glitch, you will need a Ditto. Take your Ditto up Nugget Bridge and then into the patch of grass next to Nugget Bridge and Unknown Dungeon, north of Cerulean City. Walk around until you find a Pidgey. When you send your Ditto out, use Transform. You will then have Gust, Quick Attack, and Sand Attack. By pressing select on Gust, and then pressing select on Quick Attack, the attacks will change spots. Do this. Then, kill the Pidgey. Now if you check your Ditto's stats, it will have one nameless attack. If you go into battle again with your Ditto, the first attack will have 13pp, and it will be the type Cooltrainer♀. It's got extremely low accuracy, but is pretty strong. The screen will shake and flash once or twice and then it will hit. This move does not regain pp from a Pokemon Center, you have to manually give your Ditto Ethers and Max Ethers to be able to reuse the move.

Glitch: Pokeball to Masterball
This glitch takes awhile to master, yet is pretty helpful. First, take a Pokeball and go find the Pokemon you want to capture. Make sure you're able to hit the Pokemon and it doesn't go "You missed the Pokemon!" or else it won't work. As you say use the Pokeball, right before you throw it, press A and B at the same time; right before it opens to capture the Pokemon, or lands on the Pokemon to capture it, press B and Select. If the Pokeball doesn't miss, it should capture it like a Masterball. But it takes awhile to master, so if you wanna get it right, get a whole bunch of Pokeballs and go try it.

Glitch: Invisible PC
In Red and Blue, the most south-eastern house has an invisible PC that can be used. If you look, the house is set up exactly like a Pokemon Center. So a common belief is that it actually was the original Pokemon Center, but when they decided to change it, they forgot to take out the code for the PC, even though they remembered to take out the image.

Game: Crystal (possibly Gold/Silver)
Glitch: Cloning Pokemon
Be aware that if done incorrectly, there is a chance that the Pokemon you're attempting to clone may be deleted. First, put the Pokemon or multiple Pokemon you want to clone into an empty box. Make sure there are as many spaces in your party for as many Pokemon you put in the empty box. In this case, you can only clone 5 Pokemon at once. Once you put the Pokemon in the box and there's enough room in your party, change boxes. When it asks if you'd like to save, say yes, and when it says "SAVING, DON'T TURN OFF THE POWER." turn off the power when the period appears. When you turn your game on, the Pokemon you put in that box should be in your party as well as in the box. It does take awhile to master though, so practice using Pokemon you are willing to lose. This is also a common technique people use to get copies of items, but once again, you do risk losing your item as well as the Pokemon holding it.
