Josh's Review: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (Red and Blue)

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue are nearly identical games except for the fact that Red is for Nintendo Gameboy Advance or SP, while Blue is for Nintendo DS only.
These games are an entirely new take on the Pokemon world. "What if one day you woke up and you were a Pokemon?" is the plot of these games. At the beginning of the game, your character wakes up in an unknown place, with no prior knowledge of what happened before you awakened. By taking a personality test when you start a new game, your character is chosen out of 16 Pokemon. Your gender is a main factor when your character is chosen. Males can be Bulbasaur, Charmander, Cubone, Cyndaquil, Machop, Meowth, Mudkip, Pikachu, Psyduck, Squirtle, Torchic, Totodile, and Treecko. Females can be Bulbasaur, Charmander, Chikorita, Cubone, Eevee, Mudkip, Pikachu, Psyduck, Skitty, Squirtle, Torchic, Totodile, and Treecko. After you awaken, you discover another Pokemon standing at your side; you can choose what Pokemon this will be, out of: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Mudkip, Pikachu, Squirtle, Torchic, Totodile and Treecko. The Pokemon that you choose cannot be the same type of Pokemon that you are. This Pokemon then becomes your partner throughout the game. During the game, you and your rescue team are determined to help save other Pokemon or deliver them items. Through thick and thin, you and your partner will battle against other Pokemon to get to the ones you are set to rescue. On your journey, other Pokemon may ask to join your rescue team, and you can either deny or allow them to join.
The whole game is based on the story of how a human was turned into a Pokemon because (s)he was not thankful when his/her own Pokemon gave their life for his/hers. There is also an evil team, bent on ruining your experience and exposing you as the ungrateful human that you may or may not be. It is up to your team to stop these villains and help put the rumors to rest. Are you the ungrateful human? Is this life of yours real, or are you really a human just dreaming that you're a Pokemon? These answers can be revealed by playing the game!
Haha, I sounded like some advertisement just then. And now time for the rating... Drum-roll, please. I'd give these games a 3 star rating. They bring new light to the other side of the Pokemon journey, yet the game plot, even though slightly emotional, can be pretty hard to beat, and gets slightly boring after playing it for a while. The game is also pretty hard to beat at certain points. This was a good game though, and I hope to see more like this from GameFreak and Nintendo, with maybe just a little more spark in the plot after the main game is finished. (And maybe have Drowzee be a choice for a main character or partner next time.)
